The Initiation Society is the oldest Anglo-Jewish organisation. Founded in 1745, it exists to ensure the highest medical and religious standards for Bris Milah (circumcision) are adhered to by our Mohelim (practitioners).

The second mitzvah (or commandment) in the Torah is, “Every male among you shall be circumcised…it shall be sign of the covenant between Me and you. He that is eight days old among you shall be circumcised” (Genesis 17:10-12). The performance of Bris Milah is one of the most sacred rituals in Jewish life.
Bris Milah is a practice that has existential significance to Jewish life in the UK. As the only regulatory body in the UK, BRIS is the organisation that ensures the safety and religious standards of this practice in the Jewish community.
My first born was a boy and I had no idea what to expect. The Mohel explained everything to me and made me feel calm at what was a very emotional time.
I hadn’t realised just how spiritual an experience our son’s Brit Milah would be. But from the moment we first met the Mohel, we knew we were in safe hands.
What was incredible was that the Mohel doesn’t just turn up, perform the Bris and then leave. The level of care, attention and explanation both before and in the days after was incredible.
